Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
