A extensive rescue and recovery operation is presently ongoing in the Caribbean waters for a duo of missing boats loaded with relief goods journeying from Mexico to Cuba.

Naval Search and Rescue Operations Deployed

Authorities in Mexico has dispatched naval assets and search planes to locate the Friendship and Tigger Moth, which were transporting no fewer than 9 crew members, as stated by a official statement.

The vessels had been scheduled to make landfall in Havana on either Tuesday or Wednesday, but there has been no communication from them and no confirmation of their arrival, the navy said.

Context of Relief to the Island

Cuba has relied heavily on Mexico's over the past few weeks, as the nation endures repeated nationwide blackouts.

"Both captains and crews are experienced sailors, and both vessels are fitted with suitable safety equipment and communication devices," a spokesperson involved in the effort stated.

The nine crew members are citizens of Poland, France, Cuba and the US. Officials said it has been in touch with rescue coordination centers from each country along with their diplomatic representatives.

"We are working closely with the relevant authorities and continue to be hopeful in the ability of the crews to safely arrive in Havana," the statement continued.

Earlier Humanitarian Delivery

Previously that week, the Cuban government warmly welcomed and officially received a separate vessel that had carried 14 tons of relief supplies to the nation.

That boat, called "a new Granma" after the yacht in which Castro came back to Cuba to launch the armed struggle in the 1950s, brought photovoltaic panels, pharmaceuticals, formula milk, bikes and foodstuffs.

Broader Political Backdrop

Non-governmental organizations and volunteers have primarily led initiatives to bring critical assistance to Cuba beginning in January, coinciding with the time a oil sanctions on the country began.

The United Nations have since warned of ""severe" lack of essential goods, with over 50,000 surgical procedures cancelled in Cuba due to electricity supply constraints.

Foreign policy measures have intensified in recent months, with comments from various representatives emphasizing the complex situation regarding relations.

Reacting to certain proposals, a senior official from Cuba stated firmly that "the political system of Cuba is not subject to discussion."

Indications suggest that early stages of talks were initiated, although their current progress remains not publicly known.

The maritime authorities affirmed it was dedicated to using all of the resources at its reach to locate the vessels and guarantee the safety of the crews.

To date, there has been no public statement on the lost ships by the Cuban leadership.
