The King's Historic Scoring Streak Comes to a Close, Yet Los Angeles Pull Off Victory Over Raptors.

The Lakers star knew his historic streak of scoring in double figures was at risk. When it mattered most, though, it didn't concern him.

The right decision was to pass the basketball – which is exactly what he did. With that selfless act, the unprecedented record was over.

James's unprecedented streak of over 1,200 straight NBA regular season games with 10+ points was snapped during a recent game, when basketball's greatest scorer finished with eight total points in the Lakers' 123-120 victory over the Toronto Raptors. He made the game-winning assist, setting up teammate Rui Hachimura to hit a three-pointer to win the game.

“Nothing,” James stated after being questioned regarding the conclusion of his run. “The team got the victory.”

An Unselfish Decision Delivers the Win

James could have attempted to win the contest – and extended his record – with the last shot, instead, he decided to dish the ball to Hachimura on the wing. Rui connected, and James celebrated immediately.

It's about playing basketball the right way. Always make the right play,” James remarked. “That’s just been my M.O.. That’s how I was instructed the game. That's what I've done throughout my career.”

James is fully cognizant of his point total he's scored at all times,” commented the team's head coach the coach. He acted as he has done countless times.”

The Streak's Closing Chapter

LeBron checked back into the game for the final time at under five and a half minutes to go, the win and the streak up for grabs. At that stage, he had six points from a 3-for-15 performance then.

He got a bucket at under two minutes remaining to tie the game then missed a shot with 1:01 left that would have pushed him to ten points.

He avoided taking one more attempt – but could have. Austin Reaves gave James the ball as time wound down, yet LeBron opted to make the extra pass instead of shooting.

“The basketball gods, if you do it the proper way, they will bless you,” Redick stated.

Reflecting on a Staggering Record

The record began over eighteen years ago. It stood as the longest such streak the league has ever seen: MJ previously held a streak of 866 straight games with 10+ points, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recorded 787 such games, and The Mailman had the fourth-longest run at 575.

He is such a team-oriented player,” remarked teammate a fellow Laker.

He focuses on playing the game of basketball. The chance was there but given the player he is and his character as a person, he made the unselfish play, passed it to Rui and secured the victory.”

Scoring in double figures had typically been an afterthought well before the start of fourth quarters. Throughout his run, he had achieved double figures by the beginning of the final quarter on the vast majority of occasions prior to Thursday.

But two such single-digit games after three periods had happened recently: He recorded nine going into the fourth versus the Mavericks last week, followed by six before the fourth quarter versus the Suns earlier in the week.

James managed to extend the streak against the Suns. In the following contest, it finished – but he still rejoiced regardless.

“I always just make the correct play. That’s automatic, regardless of outcome,” James affirmed. When you make the unselfish play, the basketball gods consistently giving back to me.”
