"My greatest anticipation lies in seeing how my body holds up under actual training with regard to my injury," said Tsitsipas.

"The biggest fear was whether I was able to finish an encounter," he added, explaining the pain plagued him "over the last six to eight months."

"It was genuinely scary following the loss in Flushing Meadows [to Germany's Daniel Altmaier]. I could not to walk for two days. That is the moment start reconsidering your career's future."

Tsitsipas further mentioned being content with his current recovery plan after finishing an extended period of pre-season training completely pain-free.

"It provides fantastic feedback to know you completed an off-season in good health – I wish for it to last. I aim to perform during the upcoming season and for the team championship.

"I have done the work. The most important thing is total belief that I can return to my previous level. I will try all means to make it happen."
