The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
