Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems passed over the region, bringing strong winds hitting over 100 km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Destruction

Homeowners reported large ice chunks reaching sizes of seven centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that various areas across Queensland had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

State Emergency Services handled 598 requests for assistance across the state, mostly for property damage but also for fallen timber and flooding.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along large portions of Queensland's east this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with persistent storm activity anticipated across multiple regions of both states.

Public health experts cautioned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, specifically given the current weather patterns.
