Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
