Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family go about their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
